Thomas is a founding partner of DMR Legal and combines entrepreneurial thinking with in-depth legal expertise. His focus: the economic interests of his clients. He advises national and international companies in the areas of financing, restructuring and insolvency – always with a view to finding practicable and sustainable solutions.
His areas of expertise include complex credit and financing structures, particularly in crisis situations. With an impressive track record in real estate financing, he supports both lenders and borrowers. He is also a sought-after advisor on acquisition and leveraged financing as well as growth and venture deals, including venture debt, equity mezzanine and convertible loans.
Since the beginning of his career, he has also advised on financial restructurings, in particular loans and bonds, as well as on pre-insolvency proceedings (StaRUG). He has drafted and negotiated numerous large-volume restructuring agreements. In insolvency law, Thomas contributes his expertise in self-administration proceedings including insolvency plans, advising management in the run-up to insolvency and company acquisitions out of insolvency – both nationally and internationally.
His clients include companies of all sizes, banks, private equity funds, alternative financiers, venture and growth funds, real estate companies, asset managers and insolvency administrators.
In Chambers & Partners international ranking (2025), he is listed as an “important contact for clients”. According to Handelsblatt Bestlawyers (2025 edition), he is one of the best lawyers for restructuring and insolvency law in Germany. His clients value him as a “dedicated lawyer with excellent skills who always finds practicable solutions” (IFLR1000, 2017).
Thomas started his career in 2013 at Hogan Lovells in Munich and Amsterdam in the areas of financing, restructuring and insolvency law. In 2017, a secondment at pbb Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG broadened his view of the needs of legal departments. His dissertation on a topic related to criminal insolvency law was awarded the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich’s doctoral prize.
Thomas is an active member of TMA Germany, the German Bar Association (DAV), the Young Lawyers Forum and the Young Insolvency Lawyers Working Group.
